FORSAN BAND WINS SWEEPSTAKES
The Forsan High School Band traveled to Crane on
Thursday, April 14, to participate in the U.I.L. Concert & Sightreading
Contest. The Band competed in the Class A Division with Iraan, Wink, Grandfalls-Royalty,
McCamey, and Garden City. Forsan received a Division I in
Concert
and a Division I in Sightreading. All six Judges gave the Band a First
Division. The “Sweepstakes” Trophy was presented to Forsan since they also
received a Division I at Marching Contest last October. This is the Bands 7th
Sweepstakes in a row. Some comments from the Judges were: “What a well taught
group”, “Great maturity of sound”, “Thank you for your hard work and pride, it
is exactly what I expected from this group”. “Thanks for a musical experience”.
The Forsan Band is Directed by Jim Rhodes and Jeremy Higginbotham. Mr. Rhodes
commented: “Every Sweepstakes is special, it never gets old. I want to thank
my outstanding Assistant, Mr. Higginbotham, for his work and commitment to the
band program. We are both very proud of the students in our band”.
This summer, the band will enter their Concert recording in the Class A State Honor Band competition. Tapes from all over the state will be judged at District and Area levels with the top 2 finishers making it to San Antonio in July. There, the tapes will have a final judging and rank. The top band is declared State Honor Band for Texas. The winner gets to perform a Concert in San Antonio in February for the Texas Music Educators Association Convention.
