Forsan's Cynthia Becerra became the
first cross country runner in school history to advance to the
state meet in Round Rock after she placed fourth this past
Saturday at the regional meet in Arlington.
Becerra, a senior, paced the girls
team with a time of 12:52, helping the Buffalo girls to a 15th
place finish out of 24 teams.
"We are so proud and pumped for
Cynthia for being the first runner to ever reach the state
meet," said Forsan assistant coach Tonya Vess. "She has worked
hard for four years and accomplished her dream of making it
state."
Senior Trey Paredez nearly advanced,
as well, finishing in 15th place overall with a time of 18:03.
He was four spots away from qualifying as he completed an
excellent year of cross country, said Vess.
"We were extremely pleased with all
the students' efforts and am extremely proud of their hard
work and dedication they put forth this season."
Becerra will run at state this
Saturday at Round Rock, which is near Austin.
