These movies clips are very large. They will take a few seconds to download if you are using a T-1 line, but if your connection is a 56K modem it will take from 12 to 30 minutes.

This was one of my favorite memories. It was the Spring Concert of 1993. Little Miss Oliver at the precise time turned a massive burp into a musical treat. Click her picture to see and hear the video.

Russell Roberts put on a great solo dance performance along with the Solid Silver Dancers.  Thad Sneed added "Wipe Out" on the trap set. Look close and you can find Mrs. Couch.

Mrs. Sims did a great job announcing. In this clip she explains the story of Chris Laney and the peanut butter. Chris Laney was in the bass drum that Thad Sneed was carrying. He throws out empty peanut butter jars during the show. Drum Major Lana Nichols (East) pulls Chris out.

Gary Simer, Clint Bingham, and Jim Grayson impersonated Russian Twirlers. Check out the graceful entrance.  Now watch as they flawlessly execute their twirling routine.

Every year the 7th grade band would perform with the high school band. This particular year Rap music and dance was the new rage. The 7th graders worked up a rap routine to the "Purple People Eater" and they made up their own words.

In 1993 an ugly rumor that was totally unfounded was circulating that I had made an unflattering comment about my wife's cooking. To counteract this evil plot I gave my wife roses during the Spring Concert.  All was well.

The band gave me a very rare (thank goodness) hat.

Chad Williams who is now a policeman in Big Spring dressed up as a photographer from the Big Spring Herald. He took pictures of the band kids during the performance and kept getting in the way. Finally Tera DeLaGarza took care of him. The rest of the band joined in and Chad disappeared.

Texas Tech used to invite high school bands up to perform with them at half-time. Here is clip of the 1986 show. There were 3000 high school band members on the field with the Tech Band.

In the mid 1980's Jeff Cook and the Bryan twins were the first to dress up as twirlers and put on a performance. They were great.

One of my favorite songs that we marched to was "Favorite Things".

Years ago we did a show with a couple of parachutes and a fire extinguisher. It was fun.

The band kids put on a beauty pageant to raise money for a local family. Unfortunately for everyone I was a participant.   One contestant (B.J. McDiffitt) kept stealing the spotlight and we didn't like it. The judging was intense, but it finally came down to two finalists, B.J. McDiffitt and Rusty Baker. In this next clip you will see Rusty's overwhelming joy as Big Spring's Cotton Mize makes the big announcement. The other contestants were not pleased!!

Robert Hillger and Krista West liked to lead the percussion section in classical works of art. This song was played during the spring concert their senior year.

Nathan Menges, Mike Cogburn, and Jerrod Fishback soloed on the Heatseeker. They also played this song at Howard Payne University with the Yellowjacket band.

On the way to State Solo and Ensemble Contest we would stop at the family farm in San Saba and spend one night. Our neighbors, W.T. and Fanny Crawford welcomed the band kids to their ranch for fishing and swimming. In this clip Mike Cogburn and Jason Brown sneak up on Meagan Stanley and Rusty Baker to splash them with water. Jason Brown's leg is in a cast. He was not supposed to get it wet.

W.T. and Fannie Crawford are the ranching couple in San Saba who for years let me take the State Solo and Ensemble kids to their ranch for swimming and tractor rides. They have retired from the ranch and live in San Saba. A couple of months ago their house on the ranch that we had visited so many times burned down. It was very sad for them. I know many of you kids will remember the good times we had with the Crawfords at their house. Click here to see the house.

This video has nothing to do with band. Just a good memory. Jerrod (my son) was twelve years old. We were on our way back from San Saba. He was flying and nervous.

The 7th and 8th grade trombones and baritones performed "Shortning Bread" on the spring concert. This was in 1992 or 1993.
