Wednesday's Internet Edition, October 23, 2002. Staff Writer - FORSAN — Howard County schools continue to rack up “gold” from the Texas Education Agency. Forsan Junior/Senior High School received three 2002 Gold Performance Acknowledgment awards from the TEA. “I’m proud of the teachers and the students for their achievements,” said Forsan Independent School District Superintendent Wayne Rotan. The system enacted a year ago by the Texas legislature recognizes state districts and individual campuses with high performance on state indicators other than those used to assign accountability ratings. Forsan High School received Gold Performance Acknowledgment in the areas of improvement in reading and math, as well as in the number of students to graduate on the recommended high school program. For the district or campus to receive these acknowledgments, they must rank academically acceptable status or higher in the 2002 TEA accountability ratings. Forsan ISD, the high school and Elbow Elementary all received exemplary status for the 2001-2002 school year.
