Three Mile Road Data
Questions were raised about the dangerous driving conditions on three mile road when traffic is heavy. This occurs twice a day when parents and students are traveling to and from school. Bus drivers often complain about cars passing them on three mile road, and many times this happens going up a hill against the double yellow stripe. We timed three mile road traveling at 55, 60, 65, and 70 miles per hour. The time begins at the stop sign on 1st street (where you turn off three mile to go to the Forsan Campus) and ends at the stop sign on Highway 87. Here are the results:
| Speed | Time |
| 55 mph | 3:06 |
| 60 mph | 2:56 |
| 65 mph | 2:50 |
| 70 mph | 2:40 |
A school bus can usually maintain 60 mph. If you passed the bus at the stop sign you would be saving 16 seconds. Most cars pass coming down the long hill into Forsan which is over half way down three mile road. You may be arriving 6 to 8 seconds earlier at school.
Is the danger involved in passing on three mile road worth 6 to 8 seconds?
