Forsan’s track team competed April 5 and 6 at the district track meet in Sterling City. The preliminary rounds were held on Wednesday while finals were held on Thursday. The team was one of eight looking to advance to the area competition.
“I feel good or about the same as every other meet going into district,” said Bryon Kinsey, a member of the varsity track team. “We have to take this one more seriously in order to move on, but I trust in my teammates.”
Kinsey is a runner on the varsity team, competing in the 400-meter and 800-meter relays. In these events, each member of the relay team has to run a certain distance before passing off a baton to the next teammate. In the 400-meter relay, each team member runs 100 meters. For the 800-meter relay, each team member runs 200 meters. Preparing for the event, Kinsey has participated in several practice meets.
“Going to the other meets with bigger schools and faster competition every week has prepared us for this week's district meet,” said Kinsey. “It helped me get faster and prepare for this difficult competition.”
Since the team is competing in one of the largest districts in Texas, it will be even more difficult for runners to advance; though it may seem bleak for others, Kinsey knows it’s a challenge he and his teammates can overcome.
“If we perform to the best of our abilities there is nobody there that can compete with us,” said Kinsey. “I have no regrets about this year and this meet, but I wish I can do it all again before it's over forever. I’m going to leave everything on the track, and knowing that is enough for me.”
