Forsan High School students competed at the Regional UIL competition at West Texas A&M University this past weekend.
The Spelling Team, comprised of Chance Leonardi, Patty Yabes, Marc Trinidad and Carmen Trinidad, placed 1st overall, and had all individuals in the top eight. Chance Leonardi took 1st place overall and Patty placed 5th. Marc received a sixth place ranking and Carmen placed 8th.
"This group is a blast to be around and has continued a long tradition of excellence in UIL at Forsan," Robert Hillger, Spelling Team coach, said.
This is the fifth consecutive year that Forsan High School is sending a member of the spelling team to the state competition. This year, the state competition will be held at the University of Texas in Austin on May 14.
"Our director, Kit Kraus, has done a great job getting all our kids ready to compete. Spelling and Vocabulary has taken someone to the state competition for 6 straight years and a team for five years. They were the bronze medalists last year and are looking to improve in that this year," Hillger said.
