Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2013 recently announced the local winners of the 2024-25 Patriot Pen, The Voice of Democracy, and Teacher of the Year contests, during a regular meeting.
The Patriot Pen competition theme was “My Voice in America’s Democracy?”. According to the VFW website, each year there are more than 68,000 students who take part in the contest.
The Patriot Pen winners included: Emma Matthies, 3rd Place; Matthew Pickett, 2nd Place, both Forsan junior high students. Each was presented with a certificate recognizing their accomplishment.
Teacher of the Year, named by the VFW Post 2013, was Amanda Duforat - junior high and high school teacher.
